The Blue Wall

LOUGHINISLAND GAC has revealed ambitious plans to bring ultra-modern facilities to Macartan Park – but the club needs your help.

The first phase of funding will be The Blue Wall project in the club grounds. The plan will allow individuals, families and businesses to purchase a ‘brick’ which will help fast-track the development plans.

The Blue Wall scheme will initially be erected in a prominent position on the clubhouse wall before a permanent fixture will be created at the new grounds once the development work is completed.

Club president, Eamonn O’Toole, is delighted to launch The Blue Wall to kickstart the club’s fundraising drive to help bring the plans for Loughinisland GAC into reality with state-of-the-art facilities for club players, members and the wider public.

He said: “The existing land of Loughinisland GAC was purchased and developed by the club in the early 1970s and it was debt clear on opening day. The first pavilion was built with the work carried out by the clubs members and players.

Loughinisland GAC president Eamonn O’Toole launches The Blue Wall fundraising initiative with club chair Louise Kearney. Included are Mr O’Toole’s grandchildren Jamie, Fionnbarr and Noah

“Over the intervening years a new car park was added, followed by a larger complex with new dressing rooms, a main hall, members’ lounge area and a recently-built Health and Well-Being Centre.

“With the growth in membership within the club, the demand on playing pitches has far outgrown its current demands and additional space is essential to meet the growing needs of the club.

“The committee has identified and overseen the purchase of new land adjacent to the existing grounds which will provide a new Championship pitch, youth areas and additional community facilities.

“I fully support and congratulate the current committee and executive on this new initiative and their fundraising efforts in particular ‘The Blue Wall’ project. I would ask all friends of the club to help support this exciting new venture in any way they can.”

The proposed investment will pave the way to include ultra-modern facilities including:

  • New full-sized floodlit pitch
  • Floodlit walking trail
  • Ball wall
  • Children’s play area
  • Spectator stand
  • Coffee shop
  • Enhanced changing rooms.

Each ‘brick’ will be made from a stainless steel plaque with engraved inscriptions and they will be put on permanent display as a reminder of those who contributed to the success of the club plans.

They can be inscribed with an individual’s name, family name, business or perhaps much-loved family members who are sadly no longer with us but who helped contribute to the success of Loughinisland GAC. They are priced at £250 and can be paid with a one-off fee or £50 per month for five months via a direct debit.
