Loughinisland notes – 5th February 2020

LOTTO jackpot tonight is £11,000 and the draw will take place shortly after 9.30pm live on the club’s Facebook page.

Tickets can be purchased online via Klubfunder or outlets including Brennan’s at Seaforde and Dundrum, O’Toole’s, Dundrum Inn, O’Hare’s Butchers and The Village Takeaway in Drumaness, Turley’s and The Arkle Bar, Downpatrick, plus the clubrooms.

Last week’s numbers were 9, 10, 23 and 29. Jackpot not won. Jimmy Cullen, Lil Digney and Conor Feeney shared the three number pot.

Irish classes will commence in the clubhouse tonight. Beginners’ class will commence at 6.30pm and post-beginners’ class will commence at 7.30pm. The cost is £30 for 10 classes. Island Games’ fourth week has now completed in another impressive week from the participants.

Lorraine Colgan was this week’s biggest weight losers where she lost an fantastic 6lbs.

This week’s total weight loss was 31lbs which has increased the gamers’ total weight loss at an incredible 16 stone and 7lbs.

Sunday’s challenge was the Treasure Hunt challenge. It was won by the Purple team and has leaped them back into contention in the leaderboard.

The Pink team remain in front on 126 points, closely followed by the Yellow team on 120 points, the Green team is on 117 points in third place with the Purple, Red and Blue teams just one point behind.

Loughinisland GAC has signed up to this year’s GAA National Club Draw. The benefits for the club are fantastic. For example, if we sell over 200 tickets it will generate £2,000 from the sales which will go directly back to the club.

Prizes include an all-new Renault Clio, Up to €7,000 in shopping vouchers, All-Ireland hurling and football finals packages (each to include two tickets to both showpiece events, overnight accommodation, plus dinner for two) or two tickets to a Croke Park concert.

Tickets are £10 and can be purchased by contacting any committee members. If you have unsold tickets and no buyers could you please return these? Every single ticket whether sold or unsold has to be logged on Croke Park database. Thank you to all who have bought and sold tickets. 

Loughinisland are entering an U14 girls’ team this year. Training is on Saturday mornings at the Dan Rice Hall, Drumaness, from 10.30am-11.30am and will run until March 7. All existing and new players very welcome. For further information contact Colm McAlarney or Alan Molloy.

The annual registration day in the clubhouse on Sunday was again well attended this year. Thank you to all who took the effort to attend as it it helps our registrar keeps details of members and players up to date. A thanks to all who helped make the day a success with food and drink for those to came and those who entertained the children while parents were updating paperwork.

Loughinisland GAC is taking part in the GAA’s Ireland Lights Up initiative in partnership with RTE’s Operation Transformation and Get Ireland Walking. This week walkers will meet again at the Holy Family Church, Teconnaught, at 7pm. The walk should last around 45 minutes. Everyone welcome.

Senior friends of Loughinisland enjoyed the community dinner and country music dance get-together in the GAA clubhouse on Sunday. Almost 80 of the parish’s senior citizens attended the event and, by all accounts, they enjoyed the day immensely.
