The young Blues progressed to the Championship final of the U15 Football Shieldafter an impressive showing against Rostrevor in Liatroim on Wednesday night.
The lads took a while to get used to the lights and big pitch but once they settled into their stride they played some lovely football.
Dan Smyth, James Savage and Callum Valentine helped settle these nerves with first quarter goals.
Reece Rogan worked tirelessly throughout and turned balls over and set up attacks.
Loughinisland raced into a convincing half-time lead and Matthew McGlew played a starring role setting up the attacks.
The Blues’ defence didn’t have much to do in the first half but when called upon the Magorian brothers as usual stopped the opposition attacks.
Cal Gribben produced a number of great saves throughout the game which kept Rostrevor at bay.
The half-back line of Odhran O’Prey, Conal McGlew and Ruairi Barlow offered great options to carry the ball out of defence but played on the front foot in defence and turned the ball over time after time.
In the second half Rostrevor came out fighting and to there credit where the better side for periods, but decisive goals from Daniel Savage, Lorcan Killian and a cracker from young Enda Gribben sealed victory.
This in-form team face Newry Shamrocks in the final at An Riocht on Sunday. Throw-in 12pm.
