Competitive football returns – with no spectators

FOOTBALL season is back but unfortunately it’s not as we had hoped following a four-month delay to the start of the season.

Loughinisland GAC’s senior men’s team welcome Burren for the first match in Division 1B this evening.

Due to GAA and NI Executive Covid-19 restrictions no spectators are permitted at games this weekend.

The club will have stewards around the perimeter to prevent unauthorised access to the ground and ensure these restrictions are not broken. Please abide by the guidelines and do not come to Macartan Park. This will only put our volunteers in an awkward position of having to turn people away.

While we know this is disheartening for club supporters, these restrictions are in place to keep everyone safe and help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

We also want to remind members that although there a private laneway adjacent to the pitch, this belongs to our neighbours and we need to respect their property and privacy by not trespassing on the lane.

However, we will have live scores and updates from the game on the Loughinisland GAC’s Twitter account. We will endeavour to give a running commentary of the game and make it as exciting as possible for our GAA followers and friends.

Throw-in is at 7.30pm so check out the social media channel and hopefully it will a home win for Jody Gormley’s side.

Meanwhile, the reserves begin their league campaign away to Rostrevor tomorrow evening. Throw-in 5pm and the ladies travel to Dundrum for the Down Ladies Group 3 clash with a 7pm throw-in. These games also have strictly no spectator restrictions.

Thank you for your understanding and hopefully we will be able to welcome back spectators to Macartan Park in the coming weeks.
